Winter Walk

Our daily walk has become more difficult with winter settling in. As we leave the house we can take the trail, which soon becomes steep and slick...

or we can take the sidewalk, which has been salted and sometimes gets ploughed.
I choose the sidewalk and hope it is soft enough that I don't need cleats.

It has been cold enough to freeze the little ponds in our neighborhood. This one was filled with kids from the local school in their canoes just a few months ago. Now it isn't so inviting.

People are sometimes in their garages or shoveling the driveway but mostly we are hunkered down for winter - except for our walks.

On Saturday mornings houses are aired out and the comforters are fluffed by hanging them out the window if we are lucky enough to have a day without any storms.

Parents pull their children through the neighborhood on sleds. We are all bundled up in our wool and snow clothes.

The soccer field has been turned into a hockey rink and speed track for the skaters.

Some guys can wear a hat.

I love walking up and down our part of the mountain but I really appreciate having a garage, a car, and our warm little apartment. Only 40 more official days of winter but who is counting?

  1. I'm feeling chilled just looking at these photos! Quick, I need to get back outside into to the 80˚F air.. Ha, sorry. That's not too nice.

It is cool to see everything layered with snow, and the different things that go on in your neighborhood on the average winter day (or week).

  2. Snowy winter in Bergen is a lot prettier than snowy winter in say, NYC. I'm sure it will make Spring all the sweeter! We're having winter here today: it's below 70!
